Embedded SMS

In designing a patient reminder system, we found that SMS is a powerful medium. Currently people like receiving automated appointment reminders via SMS. They are especially powerful when the patient responses are fed back into your scheduling system. MedEx asks patients to reply with a simple "C" to confirm their appointment. However, at least 30% of people text something else! Maybe they want to speak directly to a person, request an appointment change, or they reply with a concern? We've got you covered with the SMS Bot©. It is your practice's own "smart phone", built right into Epic. Use it to directly communicate with patients via SMS.

Please remember, both automated SMS messages and SMS Bot generated messages use real SMS, through commercial phone providers. Texting in general is not secure or HIPAA compliant. It's OK to send appointment reminders by text but don't disclose any protected health information unless it is specifically allowed in your Privacy Policy. The MedEx SMS Bot© is good but it is not smart enough to enforce HIPAA compliance if you enagage patients with live SMS... Please take the time to periodically review the Dos and Don'ts regarding HIPAA with your staff.


Opt-out Requests

Patients control their messaging preferences. From your initial encounter with a patient, record their messaging preferences in the demographics section of your EMR. MedEx honors these preferences, and understands people's preferences do change...

If a patient does not want to receive SMS messages, SMS will not be sent.
Every message contains an opt-out option and if selected, MedEx will update the patient's communication preferences in Epic directly.

Patient Recalls

Reach patients who need to make an appointment, whether it is 2 weeks or 2 years from now.
Your Recall System is enhanced even further with a MedEx subscription: actively reach these patients via MedEx messaging when it is time to reschedule.
